Sailability

After more than 30 years at its original location, Poole Sailability has relocated its activities to Poole Yacht Club.

Poole Sailability is an independent charity that delivers around 1,000 sailing sessions each season, giving people with disabilities and long-term health conditions the opportunity to enjoy time on the water in Poole Harbour. As an organisation affiliated with the Royal Yachting Association, its move to Poole Yacht Club further strengthens an already important connection with the Club and the wider sailing community.

Sailing is a unique sport. It brings people together, builds confidence, encourages teamwork, and creates a strong connection with the sea. Through the Sailability Sailors programme, Poole Yacht Club is proud to support an inclusive and welcoming environment where sailors with disabilities can take part in activities alongside their families, friends, carers, and volunteers.

Sailability is a nationwide initiative dedicated to making sailing accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, experience, or background. At Poole Yacht Club, the programme offers far more than sailing. It creates opportunities for participants to develop skills, build friendships, increase independence, and become part of a supportive maritime community.

Our Sailability activities focus on creating a safe, supportive, and enjoyable experience for all participants, while promoting independence, teamwork, and confidence on the water.

What the Programme Offers

The Sailability Sailors programme at Poole Yacht Club provides:

  • Accessible sailing opportunities for people with disabilities

  • A supportive community network for families, friends, and carers

  • Volunteer opportunities, both on the water and ashore

  • Social events and community gatherings hosted at the Club

  • Guidance and support from experienced sailors and volunteers

Whether someone is completely new to sailing or already experienced, the programme aims to ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience of being on the water.

Welcome Event – 26 February 2026

Poole Yacht Club was delighted to host a Sailability Sailors Welcome Event on 26 February 2026, bringing together sailors, volunteers, families, and supporters to celebrate the spirit of inclusive sailing.

The event provided a friendly and relaxed opportunity for attendees to:

  • Meet fellow sailors and volunteers

  • Learn more about the Sailability programme

  • Share experiences and build connections within the community

  • Discover how to get involved in sailing activities at the Club

It was wonderful to see such a positive atmosphere as members of the community came together to support accessible sailing and the values of inclusion, participation, and friendship.

The Poole Yacht Club and the Sailability community warmly welcome anyone interested in inclusive sailing and look forward to helping more people experience the joy of being on the water.
